Going tapeless (poor man’s edition)

Here at the N&O, we don’t have the capability to go live yet, so fast is the next best thing.Tape is the biggest bottle-neck in the process - hours of your life you’ll never get back. You could sport for a Firestore or invest in a camera that shoots to P2 or solid state. If you are stuck with tape like me and plan on shooting from a stationary position (like a press riser), you can Live capture in Final Cut Pro.
With a little help from Chuck Fadely at the Miami Herald, I was able to work out a system to Firewire my camera straight into my Macbook Pro using FCP Capture Now.
Life is good.
Note: Record to tape too just incase you accidently unplug the cable. Doh!
